Accounts are automatically activated 48 hours after purchase. Therefore, you must purchase your edgeplex subscription before a failure. If you require immediate emergency activation, there is a surcharge.
AUTOMATIC FAILOVER DNS CONFIGURATION
Automatic failover to the edgeplex server that replaces your regular support server requires that you use the edgedirector.com dns failover service for your domain.
In addition to the normal setup of your dns, include a failover setting pointed at the ip address of the edgeplex customer server. The edgeplex customer server ip address can be located by pinging ping.edgeplex.com
Details of the actual failover setup can be found in the user manual at edgedirector.com
MANUAL DNS CONFIGURATION>
It is possible to use the edgeplex service without automatic failover.
The requirements are that the dns servers for your domain remain available during an emergency; that the dns record is modified manually at the time of the emergency; and that the ttl for the record is sufficiently short as to overcome the effects of dns record caching.
The new ip address for the server can be found by pinging ping.edgeplex.com
EMERGENCY SESSION PROCEDURES
An emergency session is started when the first message is posted by the account holder registered for the host name. The session ends 24 hours after the last message posting by the account holder. When no session is active, visitors will not be able to post messages.
Therefore, the first action an account holder or their duty representative should take in an emergency is to post the first message that activates the session. The message should contain enough information that the visitor understands the nature of the emergency. The duty representative should monitor the site for customer messages during the emergency and post further information as required.
